The new 2016 gleaning season is underway with amazing results thus far. Lots of enthusiastic volunteers have joined the Project SHARE team of gleaning participants as we have visited Peter’s Orchard to pick strawberries, Spiral Path to harvest leaf lettuce and cucumbers, Burkholder’s Farm to pick corn and Weaver’s farm to pick tomatoes and cantaloupe. Toiga Tomato Green House has graciously come onboard to glean lots of tomatoes every two weeks for Project SHARE beginning in March until the end of November. The team of gleaning volunteers is well on its way to break the 57,000-pound total from the 2015 growing season.
As we enter the biggest harvest months of the entire year, we need your help. Please spread the word to any group, family or individuals that would like to volunteer to visit our gleaning page to find the link to sign up for an upcoming trip? Big sweet corn fields, amazing melon patches, delicious peach groves and hundreds of acres of succulent apples await us as we team up to bring produce back to our community.
You can help make a difference in our community by helping to harvest thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables that would be plowed under in our local farm fields. Please feel free to contact Meagan Smith at email@example.com or Steve Kuhn at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about upcoming gleaning opportunities.
